About
The Sourdough Rotation started as a pilot project in Stoneybatter in 2023 and has since expanded into multiple areas across Dublin.
Our main focus is our monthly bread rotations, which sees local members placed into pods of four people with whom they share bread with. We also host regular meet-ups and challenge bakes to flex members’ creativity and foster a sense of community.

Our why…
Food is the language we all speak.
We want to “normalise” food sharing in communities again. We believe that by doing this, we can help create healthier, happier, and more resilient places to live.
Oh, and the FREE bread!
Frequently asked questions
What is the Sourdough Rotation?
The Dublin Sourdough Rotation is an urban food sharing programme connecting local sourdough bakers/ enthusiasts who bake and share bread with each other, and who support each other on their sourdough journey.
Is there a cost to join/ participate?
There is no fee involved in joining or participating. We just ask that you actively engage in the community (by baking).
How does it work?
Each month, you have the opportunity to opt in to a rotation in your area. The rotation lasts 4 weeks. In each rotation group there are 4 people (generally). Each person in the group bakes twice during the rotation – let’s say you’re baking in weeks 1 and week 3, on weeks 2 and 4 someone else will be baking for you.
A schedule is shared the week before the rotation starts. We run two rotations (4 weeks x2 back to back and then take a two week break).
I’ve never baked with sourdough before, can I still join?
It’s great if you have some sourdough baking experience, but no worries if you don’t. If you’ve never baked sourdough bread before we just ask that you do a few trial runs before joining a rotation. We don’t offer classes, but we’re happy to provide a starter and some recipes and tips.
What if there’s no group in my area?
If there is no group established in your area, we can collaborate to try and form a group.
Where can I get some starter?
We’ll give you starter, no problem. Just register your interest to join. Alternatively, try your hand at making your own 🙂
Do you have any recommended suppliers?
Lots of our members buy in bulk via the Online Community Buyers Group – Symbi. It’s a great way to access good quality flour brands at affordable prices.
